Following the February 2023 earthquakes that affected 14 million people, 16 per cent of Turkey's population, HDI Sigorta continues to provide support to the region. As the first anniversary of the earthquake approaches, the company's Senior Management Team visited Hatay, Kahramanmaraş, Adıyaman and Malatya provinces and met with its agencies. Led by HDI Sigorta General Manager Firuzan İşcan, the team aimed to support the agencies by observing the needs in the region.
HDI Sigorta has played an active role for its employees, agencies and policyholders in the region since the days of the earthquake. Rapid Support Teams quickly reached the disaster areas and communicated with agencies and policyholders. The Company's contribution to the industry-wide total claim payments of USD 5.5 billion was realised with more than TL 1.2 billion in claim payments based on 5300 claim files.
Firuzan İşcan, General Manager of HDI Sigorta, emphasised the assistance they provided to the region after the earthquake and said, "In addition to our professional responsibilities, we are ready to do our part for the normalisation and revival of the economy in the region." İşcan stated that they will continue their support to the region as the first year of the earthquake approaches and that they will come together with agencies and observe the needs directly on site.
As a result of the damage assessment carried out in 11 provinces affected by the earthquake, it was stated that the Ministry of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change determined damage to 1 million 430 thousand 363 buildings. Of these buildings, 227,27 buildings were found to be collapsed or to be demolished immediately or heavily damaged. HDI Sigorta's more than 3,500 agencies made more than TL 1.2 billion in compensation payments based on 5300 damage files across Turkey during this period. While the company's fire branch damage payments exceeded TL 1 billion, the amount of compensation paid for motor insurance branch damages exceeded TL 140 million.
