Gürer Baykal, Deputy General Manager of VHV Reinsurance, which belongs to VHV Group, Germany's leading insurance group, is leaving his position to pursue a new career and is handing over his duties and responsibilities to Emrah Balkan, another successful name in the sector.

Gürer has made invaluable contributions to our success in becoming an important player in the sector since we entered the Turkish market in 2012. His achievements constitute one of the cornerstones of the steps we take with confidence for the future. We will miss Gürer not only as a valuable member of our company, but also for his strong friendship and character."
Taking over the baton from Gürer Baykal, subject to the approval of the Insurance and Private Pension Regulatory and Supervisory Authority ( SEDDK), will be Emrah Balkan, another manager known for his success and experience in the sector.
Stahl expressed his pleasure to have him join the VHV Turkey team and said: "With our strong capital, international experience and strong brand positioning, I am excited to work with Emrah on all our projects both in Turkey and in other countries where we work. I am sure that he will make valuable contributions to us with his industry experience and successful work throughout his career. In order to support Emrah to start his new assignment in the best way possible, Gürer will add a new one to his contributions to the VHV family by advising us for the next 3 months."
Who is Emrah Balkan?
Born in 1981 in Istanbul, Balkan graduated from Istanbul High School for Boys. In 2005, he graduated from Koç University Mechanical Engineering and in 2012 he completed Koç University Executive MBA programme. He started his career at AIG Insurance Fire & Engineering Insurance Unit in 2006. In 2016, he joined Sompo Sigorta as Corporate Technical and Reinsurance Coordinator and served as Assistant General Manager at Türk Nippon Sigorta between 2020 and 2023. Mr Balkan speaks fluent English and German and is married with 1 daughter.
